La Villa in Alta Badia Dolomites

La Villa, centre of Alta Badia, perfect for skiing, hiking and cycling, but also for relaxing and exploring the surrounding areas

La Villa is the most central of Alta Badia's localities and is settled at a height of 1.483 m a.s.l. The village is between the natural parks Puez- Odle and Fanes- Senes- Braies. The German name, Stern (star), comes from the church of the village, built in 1516 and dedicated to St. Maria ad Stellam. The church, together with the Ciastel Colz castle, built in Renaissance style, is the centre of the village. La Villa hosts 1.164 inhabitants whose peculiarity is that of speaking Ladin among them. This an antique Rhaeto-Roman language, the mother language of the Ladins.

For the whole year, there is much to see in Alta Badia. In winter, the Ski World Cup takes place every year and in summer, the “Maratona dles Dolomites” starts from here. The tourist office works the whole year to a wide events program for their guests. Beyond that, this small village in Badia Valley is a perfect starting point for daily excursions in close touristic localities as Gardena Valley, Pusteria Valley, Fassa Valley and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Even close cities as Brunico, Bressanone and Bolzano can easily be added to your holiday program.
In winter, La Villa in Alta Badia turns into the centre of international skiing. Not only for the Ski World Cup, which takes place every year on the famous Gran Risa, but also because of its direct connection to the Sellaronda and to the Marmolada glacier. La Villa is a very particular skiing area. Modern lifts take skiers on Badia Valley's plateaus, where the mountain huts will spoil their own guests with tasty traditional food.

In summer, instead, in Alta Badia there are many easy and harder walking and bikink paths. The panorama in La Villa is particularly beautiful, for in summer the Sella group shows the typical alpine flora, characteristic of the UNESCO natural parks. Beloved by guests is also the close little lake of Sompunt, surrounded by trees and narrow paths. In Alta Badia, many lifts work in summer too, in order to make the exploration of the Dolomites easier for their guests.

La Villa is nonetheless an equipped touristic location for less active guests too. The hotels quality has grown regularly in the last years and that allows a relaxing holiday. This small village in Alta Badia includes 3.000 beds of different categories, among which: hotels, garnis, holiday apartments and private structures. Beyond that, every one of your wishes will come true with the wide choice of restaurants, wine shops, rentals and specialized shops.
