La Villa, centre of Alta Badia, perfect for skiing, hiking and cycling, but also for relaxing and exploring the surrounding areas
La Villa is the most central of Alta Badia's localities and is settled at a height of 1.483 m a.s.l. The village is between the natural parks Puez- Odle and Fanes- Senes- Braies. The German name, Stern (star), comes from the church of the village, built in 1516 and dedicated to St. Maria ad Stellam. The church, together with the Ciastel Colz castle, built in Renaissance style, is the centre of the village. La Villa hosts 1.164 inhabitants whose peculiarity is that of speaking Ladin among them. This an antique Rhaeto-Roman language, the mother language of the Ladins.
For the whole year, there is much to see in Alta Badia. In winter, the Ski World Cup takes place every year and in summer, the “Maratona dles Dolomites” starts from here. The tourist office works the whole year to a wide events program
